Sunflower Women's Football Club (WFC) is a registered non-profit organization established in 1996, located in Mpumalanga Township, Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal. The club was founded by Mr. Siyabonga Malinga with the aim of grooming, nurturing, and developing the skills of young girls at the grassroots level, both on and off the field, utilizing football as a vehicle. ​ Sunflower WFC aims to combat teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and reverse the legacy of violence in the community by providing young girls with opportunities to develop their football skills. The club's vision includes establishing an excellence center to produce top-tier athletes and creating a "sport garden" that embodies various sports codes for both competitive and recreational purposes. ​ The senior team competes in the SAFA Regional and Provincial Women’s League, known as the Sasol League. In 2017, Sunflower WFC clinched the KwaZulu-Natal Sasol League title and has consistently been a strong contender in subsequent seasons. ​ Community Engagement: Beyond football, Sunflower WFC is deeply involved in community upliftment projects. Initiatives such as the "Qedindlala Project" provide food packs to players and their families, while the "Qhakaza Project" addresses the sanitary needs of players. These programs underscore the club's dedication to the well-being of its members and the broader community. ​ The club has also been proactive in addressing social issues, participating in campaigns against women abuse and supporting educational initiatives for youth empowerment.
