The Tshwane Regional Development League (TRDL) was established in 2024 as a pilot project aimed at strengthening local football structures and bridging the gap created by the rapid growth of teams joining the Gauteng Development League. The initiative began with 14 teams from various local football associations and has since grown to 20 teams in 2025, divided into two streams — A and B. The current season kicked off in April and will conclude at the end of October, with positional playoffs determining the overall winners who will be promoted to the Gauteng Promotional Development League. In its inaugural 2024 season, two teams — Dinoko and Hellenic — earned promotion. All participating coaches are required to hold a CAF D Licence, with the standard set to rise to a CAF C Licence in 2026. Mr. Sello Ramabya, General Secretary of the Tshwane Regional Football Association and head of the project, expressed his appreciation for the partnership: “We are delighted and pleased with the partnership with Inqaku and the value it brings to the development of football in our region. Initiatives like these ensure that grassroots football continues to grow in a structured and sustainable way.” Inqaku CEO ,Shane Felix echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of collaboration in developing local talent: “At Inqaku, we believe that meaningful partnerships are key to the growth of football in South Africa. Collaborating with like-minded organisations who invest their time and resources into developing the game at grassroots level ensures that young players are given the platform and support they need to thrive. We are proud to contribute to the Tshwane Regional Football Association’s development programme and to be part of initiatives like the TRDL Tournament 2025 that nurture the next generation of football talent.”
